Do you ever have extra energy required moments? Those moments where you are just DONE and dreaming of bed time or for Dad to come home? Your kid won’t eat what you made for dinner, The toddler peed on the floor again, Another mess was dropped, You found food on the wall, You stepped on another toy, They won’t stop screaming, They are fighting again, They won’t go to bed, They won’t nap, They won’t put their shoes on, They won’t let you pee alone, They’re flopping on the floor, Your husband’s running late... These are these moments that stretch you. Stretch your patience and stretch your sanity as a mother. Nothing is going according the plan. The house is a mess and sometimes our kids need more attention than we have energy for in these moments. Sometimes I start to yell, and lately in my high anxious, frustrated state I yell, “You guys are driving me crazy!” I never realized how much I maybe said this until I was having another “I’m going to lose it" moment when my toddler looked at me and said “going crazy!” Yes, that happened. These moments of “mom’s going to snap” happen. It can be all day, every day with little ones; the needs, the demands, the extra energy required days or moments. But what if during one of these moments you were told “Dad will be home in 5 minutes exactly.” Something in us changes; we see an end in sight, we know relief is coming, help is on the way! We somehow muster up more energy and make it through. We stretch and tell ourselves “Just five more minutes. I can do this!” And somehow we always do. We take a deep breath, press on, clean up the pee on the floor again, wipe the dirty surfaces, finish that laundry, snuggle that non sleeping little one a bit longer, read another book, drop everything... whatever we can just to get through those last 5 minutes. And then we make it through... But what if Dad ISN’T coming home in 5 minutes? What do you do? You stretch. The next time you’re in a moment that your patience is dwindled, your energy depleted, your sanity almost lost... whisper to yourself, “stretch.” Expand yourself to get through the next five minutes, the next ten or hour, whatever you need. Will yourself to take a deep breath, to expand your patience and expand your energy. Then go out with renewed strength because you know if you just stretch and expand yourself you CAN make it through. Keep being the great mom you are, keep loving on the littles you’ve been blessed to call your own. You can do it! I promise. Dad is almost home. |
